Stand firm, therefore, having the belt of truth
fixed around your waist.
What Is Truth?
What does the Ancient Word of God have to say about truth? It tells us, when we know the truth (experience it and live it) that vital truth will set you and me free. (See John 8:32) The context of this passage makes it clear that this truth will set us free from bondage to sin and death; therefore, we may freely, and authentically, live because of the truth. Jesus makes it clear regarding how He relates to THE truth. He tells us, “I am the way, the truth and the life…” (See John 14:6) Any truth contrary to Jesus’ truth is counterfeit, and it will rob us of eternal life. When Jesus prayed for His church — the past, the present and the future church — He prayed, “Sanctify them in the truth. Thy Word is Truth” (See John 17:15 & 17.) So the truth sanctifies you and me. Or the truth makes us holy in God’s sight. We obtain this absolute truth from The Word of God. You and I can choose the truth. As Philippians 4:8 says, “Whatever is true … let your mind dwell on these things.” So we really are free to choose truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, and experience the truth’s benefits.
What Will We Do With The Truth?
What are we to do with the truth? Some people cannot handle the truth. So, they may do like Pilate and not seek it: As Jesus was bleeding before Pilate, this Roman leader came right out and asked Jesus, “What is truth?” Yet, he didn’t wait for an answer. He simply turned and walked away. He literally turned his back on the truth that carried with the truth all the wonderful expressions of truth mentioned above. Later history reveals he killed himself. A life that turns it’s back on the truth experiences a death sentence. All too many today are following Pilates’ example. They may not kill themselves, but they will die without God. As heartbreaking as it is, they will be slaves who are in bondage to sin and death. They will live ungodly and unholy lives. Sadly, none of the benefits of living by the truth will be theirs.
People who live broken lives, or who are lost without Jesus, will be transformed in a supernatural way once they choose the truth! Their life outcome will become just the opposite of those who don’t hold to the truth. They will not walk away from Jesus. They will seek Him out. Their spiritual and emotional brokenness will move toward healing, and they will be delivered as they experience God’s salvation grace! I am telling the truth when I say that they will truly know God or experience God. As a result, they will accept Jesus invitation and worship God. For they will know God is Spirit, and they will worship God in Spirit and The Truth.
Why not be free today? Why not break the chains that keep you in bondage to sin and death? Why not let God make you holy in His sight through His Word, which is the truth? Don’t turn your back on the truth, but turn toward He who is named Jesus. Let Him set you free! Then follow Jesus’ truth filled teaching today, especially today, and Worship today in Spirit and in Truth. (See John 4:24)
You will be glad you did.
