God Says,”Let’s Make A Deal!”

It was neither by the blood of goats and calves,
but by His own blood He (Jesus)
entered, once and for all, into the holiest place.
It was in this most holy of holy places that He obtained
eternal redemption for us.
Hebrews 9:12

The Obsolete Covenant

In the Bible, when a particular sacrificial system of the Old Covenant was set up, it  didn’t work so well. God kept His end of the bargain, but we human beings just blew it! Therefore, God  declared it “obsolete.” It didn’t surprise God that it didn’t work, and God did some interesting stuff to  replace it with an entirely New Covenant; so, in our scripture above, the writer of Hebrews is telling us all about this very important God deal related to our 21st century existence.   I doubt you will hear this very often, but this is a vital contract/covenant about which you need to be informed.  Your very life depends on it. This is so important that even blood had to be shed to make this possible.

The Location, Location, Location

I can almost hear you saying, “SAY WHAT?” I know this  sounds weird for the natural mind to get wrapped around, but it really is true. There is a Holiest Holy place,  which is located in the heavenlies. This is the place where Jesus took His own intentionally shed blood (His blood was NOT spilled)  to atone for our sins … to satisfy God’s wrath.  As a matter of fact, the Old Covenant Holy Place was copied after the one in Heaven. God gave Moses the instructions on how to build it. Check this out:

Hebrews 8:5

They (the Old Covenant High Priests) serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.

See? I wouldn’t jive you! You can also find this reported in Exodus 25:8-9. Anyway, Jesus took His blood into the most Holy Place in the universe, and He didn’t take it into the earthly carbon/photocopy made by Moses.  So, if you think about it, Moses holy place  really is copied from Heaven. And the lambs of God that took away sin ceremonially, pointed to Jesus “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”

A One Time Good News Good Deal!

Next thing: He only did this once. To be exact, He did it “once and for all.” Why is this important? It is important because, in the obsolete covenant (See Hebrews 8:13,) the blood sacrifices had to be accomplished yearly. Once a year the High Priest would carry out this ritual. It continually reminded them of their sins as they were cleansed ceremonially. This could have a tendency to shame people.  Not Jesus. He did it once and for all time. When He said on the cross that “it is finished,” it was indeed finished. He completed God’s benevolent plan of salvation.  He doesn’t have to shed His blood repeatedly to apply the covenant to us. Notice it is also “for all.” Everyone who wants to benefit from this can. No one gets excluded unless they want to be excluded.

Price Paid In Full

So, once and for all, Jesus entered the Holy Place, and in this place He purchased or He obtained something. He obtained “eternal redemption.” Eternal means to share in the life of God forever. Redemption defined is simply forgiveness. In other words, Jesus entered the Holy of Holiest place. Second, He carried out both the work of the Lamb of God and the Great High Priest in a way that would never have to be repeated. And He bought and paid in full the sin debt we owe to God. There is no way we could do this ourselves. In a nutshell, He bought for us the ability to share life with God forever,  as perfectly forgiven people. WOW!

Let’s Make A Deal

Therefore, God reaches out to you, the reader, and it is like God is saying, “Let’s Make a Deal!”  NO! God is indeed saying this. He is making you an offer today that I hope you will not refuse, and if you are wise you will take it. God offers you the opportunity to receive this Jesus into a life relationship with you. He is offering that you do this by faith. There is no question in my mind that God loves you so much that God gave His only biological (begotten) Son. He did this so that,  whoever chooses to believe in Jesus will not perish, but whoever chooses to benefit for this New Covenant, will share in God’s life forever. God did not send Jesus into the world to condemn anyone. But He sent Jesus so that, through Him, anyone and or everyone could would be saved. Each person can know, for an absolute certainty, that they are completely forgiven of every sin they have ever committed,  and that they now can be formed into  a new creation in Christ.

God offers this to you today. The only question that needs to be answered is, “Do you want to be included?” Do you want to make this deal? There are not three doors. There are not two doors.  Their is only one door to open. It is the door of  your heart.
